I'll start off by saying the food was delicious. The problem is the service. We ordered our food and they forgot multiple items. They forgot a beer glass and oysters. They came back to ask us "oh you ordered oysters right?" We would say yes and they would hurry back to tell someone in the kitchen. The view of the marina was beautiful. We could also watch the sun set. We went on a hot day and there wasn't very much shade to cool off under. Luckily, one of the waiters brought us an umbrella. Everyone enjoyed the food. There were stands to get balloon animals, fight with pirates and jump in a bouncy house. There was also dancing to songs like Cupid Shuffle. There was a man dancing with just about every woman. It was his birthday. Now he was a ladies man! Overall, our experience was good. We might go back soon.

This restaurant needs to learn how to manage reservations especially considering their outdoor seating. Tonight we had reservations for 8pm. When we arrived we were told it would be about 20 minutes more. Around 8:30 a storm moved in and caused tables that were outside to move inside. Ultimately after almost an hour past our reservation time, we still had not been sat. They allowed a table from outside that had been re-sat at the bar to then be sat at our table. We had 4 small children with us and no one seemed to care. Not a word was said until we started to walk out. Even then it was blamed on the weather. But when we arrived on time for our reservation there was no bad weather. Bottom line: don't bring kids and don't go unless weather is perfect or you might not get a seat.

Pleasant surprise. Recommended by a "local" person. Friendly service, great tasting food. Not inexpensive, but worth it. Great view if sitting outdoors.

We were hesitant to go because of so few reviews but I learned that they just opened in the fall and we decided to give it a try. So glad we did! Excellent location, views (sunsets over Shem Creek), atmosphere, service, food and everything! We sat outside and enjoyed the band playing next door. It took a bit to get service during the busy time we went but it was well worth the wait and our server was fantastic and the manager/owner (?) was also very attentive, checking on us several times and even made it a point to walk out and speak to us as we left. We has scallops and lobster boil....excellent, great presentation and decent price! Several more things we would like to try!

Creative menu. I had the Brussel sprout salad with shrimp. The other entrees at our table were well received. The fried chicken was good. The shrimp empanadas were spicy. The tiramisu soaked in Baileys was incredible. Nice view of the marina. Helpful staff.

We went for a late lunch/early dinner and we very happy with all of our meals. The service was very friendly. The standouts in our meal were the peel and eat shrimp, the hush puppies, the fried flounder sandwich and the fried chicken. All of us agreed we would definitely go back to Lokal!

Calamari was amazing. The fish is fresh. Service was great. Loved the hush puppies to start!!

My husband and I met Nick, the raw bar guru, outside Lokal last night and he suggested we come back to try the restaurant before we ended our trip to Kiawah. We are so glad we took his advice! My husband loved the oysters Nick suggested and we all enjoyed our entrees. The crab cake b.l.t. was very tasty - not too much filler. The poblano mac and cheese was really creamy and had just the right amount of heat. The lobster pot pie was delicious and not too heavy. There was only a top crust on the "pie" and a lot of lobster claw meat inside. Our kids weren't very hungry but enjoyed their selections, mac and cheese and brisket empanadas. Our server, John, was attentive and nice. The owner/manager came over to talk and check in with us as well. We will definitely go back next time we are in Kiawah. Make sure you walk around the back side of the building as the entrance faces the marina.

Just opened in the marina! We were there for the 3rd night & very excited to check it out. They don't take reservations so expect to put your name in and wait. They took over Rosebank Farms and remodeled by opening up & brightening up the place. Unfortunately they have made it incredibly loud & that will be disturbing to many guests. The menu is extremely limited and rather overpriced ($11 for salad plus $4 for any protein add on; and only 2 choices of dressing). The good: very well staffed and we had an excellent waitress. She was personable and quite attentive; top notch and a reason to return! Also, there was a large selection of oysters and the 1/2 dozen raw ones we had were the best in a long, long time. It was a nice touch to have the mignonette sauce! The bad: the manager, really missed his mark and came off pennywise and pound-foolish. Overall he appeared quite attentive and did visit us once. However, try as I did to get his attention before we left I couldn't. The initial feedback we gave him was critical, but he tried to assure us he found it valuable. Not so sure though since he never checked back again. My big problem was when he heard us have the waitress repeat her description of the nightly special, he owned that the mistake was all his but then did nothing to correct it. The waitress did her best to make it right, but this manager/part owner? just ignored us for the rest of the night. The steak special was described as a "bovette steak with bordelaise sauce, roasted potatoes and grilled asparagus". What came out was an unsliced, and marinated hangar steak with succotash. Guess we were supposed to be happy that the cost was only $25 for this surprise special? Now, the manager did offer to replace, but my friend had already finished eating and I was 1/4 done with the steak. My friend helped and we ate a little more than 1/2 the entree. The flavors weren't bad, it was just not at all as ordered. Maybe my own fault for ordering beef at a seafood place. The only other option for a carnivore like me would have been the salad. Now, the dessert was yummy and unexpected: chocolate pudding with a chewy caramel topping. They are farming talent from the Sanctuary. The wine list was impressive, with great variety by the glass. They have some draft beer, cocktails and port. They have two bars, for quick and informal seating; one the raw bar with the same uncomfortable chairs used throughout the restaurant and a bar bar with padded stools and TVs. We don't mind dropping $100 for dinner for two, but I do expect to get roughly what I order and was appalled the manager would charge full price for his major error. A free dessert or drink might have eased my distaste. My friend definitely wants to go back, but I will have to be dragged.

One of the best meals I've ever had. My husband and I came here on a Saturday night for some local seafood. Loved the crab cakes with fried green tomatoes, Rockefeller oysters, scallops, and Mac and cheese. Not sure why yelp doesn't have this place at a 5 star rating- we literally couldn't have been happier! Also great service- they were great with moving our table and kept on top of our needs! So much better than local competition!!!!!

Have been here for brunch and lunch, good experience and great service both times. Not sure about the complaints about portion size on here, both times I've left quite satisfied. Shrimp po'boy was great at lunch; the low country hash was a delicious breakfast and the Peach pancakes were really fluffy. Minus a star because putting ice cubes and some unripe peaches into white wine does not a sangria make.

We have been coming to Kiawah for many years and were devastated when Rosebanks shut down. We have eaten at all the hot spots in and around Charleston -- Fat Hen, Wild Olive, Hall's Chophouse, Maganolia's, FIG, Husk, etc. -- and I must say, our meal at LOKAL just blew us away. I ordered the soft shell crab special, replete with cayenne, grits and fresh crab sauce. It was truly spectacular, as was the fried chicken sandwich my husband ordered. We'll be back!!!

If you don't mind long waits and shrimp poop, this place may be for you! We arrived as their first lunch customers today and had three kids age 3 and under in our party (read - faster service is always appreciated). They get two stars instead of one because our server was very nice to the kids and brought their food out pretty fast. But, after an hour of waiting, the adults still didn't have their food (other tables had ordered and been served during this time). Finally, four adults in our party got their entrees, but my husband and I still didn't have ours. The server told us that the kitchen made me shrimp tacos, not fish as I had ordered, and that they wanted to re-plate my husband's dish to make it look nicer - hence, the further delay on our food. I may appreciate the re-plating if I had been on a date, but we had 3 little kids who had already left the table ages ago and one of them was getting fussy as it was nap time. We asked her to just box both of our dishes to go. After several more minutes, my husband and I left (without food) because the baby was falling apart. Our extended family brought home our food later. When I finally got around to eating my shrimp tacos at home (again, I had ordered fish), I got the lovely surprise that half of them weren't properly deveined and still had visible poop in them. Nice. If you want some extra protein, order the shrimp.

Our waitress was the only saving grace for our meal. She was attentive and engaging, with that being said the meal was very mediocre. The seating was a little strange. The hostess seemed to get frazzled and was not use to the high volume of traffic which was due to a fishing competition. The food was ok, there was succotash in everything we ordered. Although the succotash is good it was presented in a way that it made me feel like everything was a side to the succotash. For the price point I would have expected more food and less fillers.

This place is well worth the visit. Fair prices for the portion size (considering it's a resort area and prices are inflated). The decor is updated and atmosphere is very good. The waiter we had, Jay, was attentive, informative and friendly. The bar pours solid drinks and the food was good. We didn't go deep into the menu. We had fried shrimp (great and big), Mac and cheese (very good recipe), hush puppies (ok), street corn (good) and collards (unique recipe, tasty and enjoyed). All the seafood is FRESH. This is not the case at other spots in Bohicket. In fact Jay mentioned that the restaurant doesn't even have a freezer. Music to my ears. I'll eat here again for sure.

Delicious fresh oysters!! Yummy oyster shooters and bloody Mary's were delish. Their special was steak n eggs which the boys said was a great cut of meat and I loved my stuffed flounder. It's on the marina and has a lovely view. We will definitely be back!!

There aren't that many places to eat around Seabrooke island. We were headed to a local sports bar, Fishers, but it was tiny and had no seating. So, we chalkboard sign in the same building area for Lokal's and decided to give it a try. I'm glad we did. They have a nice outdoor area on the river, but we chose to sit inside for fear of rain. Inside was nice, and we sat at a high top table. They had a pretty varied menu and some local draft beers on tap. I got a shrimp po-boy. My wife got a seafood gumbo. My daughter got sushi. My other daughter got calamari. All the food was very good. They also have an oyster bar, but we passed on it. Overall, this is a solid place to grab some eats. However, beware, the Yelp map location was incorrect. This restaurant is located in Bohicket Marina area, and the Yelp map had it located several miles away. I emailed the resturant to let them know, but not sure if it will be corrected.

Last night, as we walked in our family of 9 were seated straight away outside(even though it was crowded). The weather was perfect and the music was very good. I had been there once before and I thought, it was pretty good. Our waitress was new and a little slow, but the food was amazing. We ordered half a dozen oysters to start, they were fabulous very fresh and the sauce's took them to a new depth. I then ordered Shrimp n Grits, it only took 35 min for it to arrive, we were expecting much longer since we had a group of 9 and it was already crowded. The Shrimp n Grits were so good best I've ever had and it was plated beautifully with cayenne pepper on the side of the plate. I asked every-one else and they said the food was great and the fried chicken and gravy was amazing too along with everything else we ordered. Great night, pretty good service, and amazing food!

I came here with my parents on New Years Eve when we ran out of open options. We were seated immediately, despite not having made a reservation, which was nice. Unfortunately, we were given a cramped high-top table that was right next to the door, forcing a blast of cold air in our direction every time someone entered. The drink menu and Happy Hour specials looked fantastic. I got a delicious white sangria, which didn't taste watered down at all, as they often do. My dear mother was very pleased with her Dark & Stormy! The service was great. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and friendly--not to mention totally adorable! The general manager also came out to greet us at one point to see how our meal was going. I really wish the food had been as exciting as I'd hoped for (hush puppies were the phenomenal exception). The size of the portion was great but everything was way too salty! It completely overpowered the flavor, which would have been fantastic otherwise. I think this restaurant needs to work out a few more kinks in the kitchen. The new ownership has kept this place charming, but the food needs a little work.

This was a great place for families. It had a great view of the marina and had great food. But it was a little hot outside because there wasn't a lot of shade. You start off with hush puppies and Carolina dipping sauce and it was delish! It's like their bread and butter. Then for an appetizer we got the oysters which were really good and shrimp empanadas which were really good and I had never tried one before. Then for dinner I got the Philly cheese steak sandwich with brisket. I have to say it wasn't very good but it was because I was expecting more of like a roast beef kind of meat. But I have to say the Mac and cheese was super tasty and so was the Mexican corn. I was not expecting the Mexican corn to be good but it was probably the best thing we had! Overall this was a great place! By the way I don't like bacon...

This place was pretty awful not only did the management yell at their staff in front of guests just know I'll be on in there you walk in there you feel like you're down or depressed food is hit and miss I think they try to fix too much stuff and again for seeing an owner or manager and even the kitchen employee yelling at that staff while you're not trying to dine there is just not accepted in my book.... had a brand new server name lish? she was amazing... that was probably the only good thing in there also no soap no paper towels in the restroom.... I feel like there's too many good places in the area to come up on this one I recommend eating at other options

Great local watermelon jalepeno margaritas to watch the sunset, we enjoyed both of those with the fried green tomato crab cake app. It was spot on. Service was top notch, food was fab and *locally* sourced, and the atmosphere was gorgeous. GO HERE!! you won't be sorry.

I never complain about bad food but stay away from the oysters, not the freshest. Try the Ordinary downtown if you are looking for amazing oysters. Service is terrible. Sunset amazing. Unfortunately, we won't be returning.

They must have worked out the kinks the other reviewers had to deal with. Our food was delicious, was served quickly, and the server was adorable. The drink special was very good. I'm so glad this opened up in Bohicket Marina. The raw oysters were a big hit at our table but we had to ask for saltines.

We had a 6:30 reservation but called to say we would be late due to a severe thunderstorm in the area. Emily totally understood in fact she kept me posted with updates concerning possible power outage. When we finally arrived we were pleasantly greeted by Emily and seated. Drinks arrived quickly and the fresh complimentary hush puppies were excellent. I had the Brussels Caesar salad which was okay but on the bitter side. The stuffed flounder had to much crab stuffing that I found bland. My sister enjoyed her crab cake and her husband had the mussels on pasta which he described as okay. I would have to agree with the previous reviewer that this restaurant has great potential and just needs to work on some of the menu items

Great experience at Lokal. We were seated right away, and had a great view of the water. For appetizers we had the New Orleans BBQ shrimp, which was generously shared among three people. It came with grilled toast points, but when we finished, we requested some saltine crackers to sop up the leftover sauce! It was that delicious. For dinner we had two orders of shrimp & grits, which were creamy and delicious, and the Charleston crab cake with a side of collard greens. The crab cake was all crab- no fillers. Plenty of bang for the buck. For drinks, we had Chardonnay, rosé wine and an amazing strawberry & basil mojito. Great service from our server Kelly. Will definitely return.

This place is located in the Bohicket Marina area. The location is nice; we sat outside at one of their picnic tables. I ordered their Thai chili tuna with crab fried rice, seared and rare, of course. The tuna also had some sort of white creamy sauce on top, not sure what it was but it was unpleasant. That was not listed on the menu in terms of what this dish came with. There also wasn't a lot of Thai chili sauce. The tuna itself was definitely not seared, more like a medium well. The crab fried rice tasted like something from Panda Express with bits of crab in it. It was very salty. This entree was $28 but the owner took off 50% because the tuna definitely was not prepared correctly. My husband had the peel n eat shrimp for market place, which at that time was $17ish for 1/2 pound. When we went to New Orleans we were able to get huge Gulf Coast shrimp for only $22 for a full pound. Anyway, the shrimp were very fresh and not overdone or rubbery. They were lightly seasoned. He also ordered the PEI Mussels which were also delicious. For the price I would probably go to some of the other well-acclaimed seafood places in the Charleston area.

We were disappointed after reading the reviews. The Chef's Grill combined scallops with Monck fish. The batter on the fish did NOT go well with the rest of the dish. The Lobster Pie - well if you love mash potatoes that is what this dish is mostly made of. Very little lobster meat. Disappointing!

My husband and I visit Seabrook Island quite a bit and decided to try Lokal for dinner. The branding/marketing for this restaurant is great but unfortunately the food was not. The prices are in the fine dining category and the food is certainly not. We ordered the steak which had fried oysters on top and was priced at $30 so we expected a nice, juicy steak for this price. Unfortunately, the thin piece of grey meat that was served to us looked like it came from Waffle House. It was mostly fat, was over salted and we sent it back because it was just not edible. The burger was just okay. The servers were all hovering around the bar area and didn't seem to be trained properly for a "fine dining" restaurant. The management really needs to rethink their strategy and maybe go for a more casual, beach bar style rather than promoting and pricing your items at fine dining prices and serving sub par food.

We had high hopes for our visit to Lokal for dinner, but it was not a good experience. My food, the stuffed flounder entree, was not enjoyable, and the service was not good. The whole staff just seem overwhelmed and unable to keep up with the demands of a full restaurant.

Best seafood restaurant near Kiawah island! The food was fresh and tasty. We had fried green tomatoes with crab cake, oysters Rockefeller and flounder sandwich--all top notch. They are new( near red ice) but service too was surprisingly good. Same chef/owner as Craves. We will be back.

Never in my life did I think eating at a restaurant could make me feel like a combination of your first trip to Disney World and 4:59pm on a work day. I should have known it was going to be spectacular from the fact my mother wouldn't shut up about it like it was the second coming, but I had to take adventure into my own hands and see for myself how great it was and I was not let down. Begin with the hush puppies with peach and jalapeno dipping sauce. Not only was I scolded by said mother for eating her portion, but I decided soon after if I was stranded on a deserted island for months I would make sure there was a way for me to get these hush puppies to sustain life and happiness while I was there. Onto the entree I had the Lobster Pot Pie and sat in silence with my mom for a good 20 minutes because the only action I was fixated on doing was food to mouth. There isn't a word that could even come close to how I tasty this dish was. It was worth nose diving into in front of the restaurant. Finally, I want to conclude with the fact that jokes aside this is one of my favorite restaurants of all time and I will be going back frequently. Thank you for the wonderful service and not judging me when I gorged myself. It was freezing inside the restaurant though so bring a jacket!

What a fabulous treat to have LOKAL in one of the loveliest spots in Charleston - Bohicket Marina! The genuine hospitality shown by the hostess, Jackie, exceptional greetings from Nick, the Manager and Isaac, the Barkeep are a southern treat. Chef Mike, owner and Executive Chef is as charming as his team, he too is focused on creating the best dining experience possible. I brought a dear friend there for the first time on Friday evening. She was amazed at the hospitality, attention to detail, and the genuine desire from the Chef to serve her the best in southern cuisine. She was awestruck with Chef Mike's bruschetta followed by shrimp and grits made with smoked tomato sauce. I enjoyed an incredible Lobster Pot Pie! The best I've ever had.. For those of you concerned with noise, please know Chef Mike and his team have added sound neutralizers in several areas of the restaurant. This creates a wonderful environ to converse and visit with your friends and family while enjoying the best cuisine in Charleston! Renee B

Food quality doesn't match the outrageous prices. Is in a great location and had nice scenery. Basically you are paying for the view not the food.

Omg! All the way from California... Food was to die for! Life changing in a good way. The Tom gai and Manhattan soup is wonderful! Everything was good!

Food was really good, but crazy expensive for small portions. Noise in restaurant was loud with tile floors, metal chairs, glass, just not really cozy.

Really like the manager and others here . Food is good and great location. Here is the bad news. The noise level is impossible! If the folks could do something to bring the noise level down, would be a favorite. For now we will not be back.

Lunch visit - slow service (waitress was spacey), limited menu, subpar food, small tables used for large parties.

Good food, very nice people. Yummy oysters, crab cake and succotash! Greens had a sweet taste that we didn't love, and it got very buggy at dusk. Would go again, and will.

Renee B
